DoodleBeam LEGAL & PRIVACY

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 7, 2026

DoodleBeam turns any screen into a shared canvas — draw on top of the app you're already using while a friend sees every stroke in real time. This page explains, plainly, what the app collects to make that work, and what it deliberately does not.

What we collect

DoodleBeam signs you in anonymously using Firebase Authentication. There is no account-creation form anywhere in the app — Firebase assigns your device a random anonymous ID, used only to tell room members apart (e.g. "who drew this stroke").

When you create or join a room, this is stored in Firebase Realtime Database for as long as the room is active:

room.code the short code used to join a room
room.members[] anonymous IDs of everyone in the room
presence.status online / offline, per member
stroke.points the coordinates, color, and width of each drawn stroke

This is visible only to members of that specific room — rooms are joined by sharing a private code, never discovered publicly.

We do not collect: your name, email, contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera data, or browsing history. DoodleBeam contains no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics or tracking SDK.

How long data is kept

A room's drawing data is deleted the moment its owner ends the room. Presence data clears automatically the instant you disconnect. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage, ends your anonymous identity entirely — a fresh install gets a brand-new one, with no link back to the old.

The "draw over other apps" permission

DoodleBeam requests Android's display over other apps permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) to show the drawing overlay and its floating control chip on top of whatever app you're using during a session.

PERMISSION SCOPE
  • ✓ Displaying your drawing overlay above the app you're using
  • ✗ Never used for ads or fake system dialogs
  • ✗ Never used to read or record what's on your screen
  • ✗ Never interferes with password prompts, lock screens, or other apps' input

Revoke it any time from Android Settings → Apps → DoodleBeam → Permissions.

Children's privacy

DoodleBeam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Data sharing

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing. The data described above is processed by Firebase (Google) as our backend infrastructure provider, under Google's own data-processing terms.

Your choices

Because DoodleBeam doesn't collect personally identifying information, there's no traditional account to delete. To remove your data:

  • End any room you own — this deletes that room's drawings immediately, or
  • Uninstall the app — your anonymous identity and any rooms you still own can be cleaned up on request via the contact below

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too — and for anything material, we'll surface a notice inside the app.
